South Africans consume the most liquor in the world according to WHO stats.
During lockdown ALL liquor outlets are closed!
Before lockdown those that rely on alcohol bought their "stock". I witnessed mostly liquor and non food stuff piled up in trolleys which says they're going to have a drinking party rather than eat good healthy food during this time.

I hope the data will show that the lockdowns around the world have done some good to people and the world.

I am thinking that we will see a lot of data crunching in the days and months ahead. Data science is going to get into high gear. They will tell us about:

  1. How the quarantines and lockdowns have improved the environment quality
  2. How people's obesity has increased due to sedentary lifestyles, hoarding and overeating of food
  3. How families have come together
  4. How employers have found news ways to save costs with remote working, contractor workforce etc.
  5. The focus on health care, its shortcomings, negligence of the poor and less resourceful have made the society realize the need for central federal health care. It is possible that Bernie's fortunes will go up after America opens again.

I am curious to see all those data points. I am sure new trends will come out of this unique experience, new inventions will come out, new businesses and millionaires will be born.

Some interesting stats to look forward to indeed.

A few of my colleagues have already complained about weight gain. I reckon its stress eating during lockdown.

@TimeOutForMe

Hopefully the data will show that at least eating home cooked food was better than eating restaurant food?

@St-Sinner yes because restaurants and take ways are no-nos during this time too.

A friend is picking up some wine for me right now and he says the stocks are very low. So it's just not South Africa that's trying to boost their way through the crisis.

This sounds worse than xmas or "festive" shopping 😅
