Who were you named after? So many people ask me if I was named after Veronica from "Betty and Veronica" comic books. I was named after Saint Veronica from the Catholic tradition and the Sixth Station of the Cross, LOL. Out of an act of kindness, she took a cloth and wiped Jesus' face on his way to crucifixion. I guess that is something I can see myself doing, so that's a plus, haha. As a huge fan of comic books, I would much rather have been named after a cool ass comic book character and sigh when I tell others this when they ask!
I guess I want to share the naming of my children. I named my son after grandparents and uncles on both sides of the family. I wanted to name him Pete but my husband objected since my last name was Hunter at the time. My dad had a brother named Pete that everyone seemed to idolize but he died of alcoholism very young. I thought that I could get by with naming the boy Pete instead of Peter so I asked my dad if Uncle Pete was really Peter or just Pete. My dad informed me that his name was James because Pete was the nickname for James. Later in life I learned Uncle Pete was James Preston so my son could have been Preston but was instead a James.
I named my daughter Sydney after my Dad Sid. When I told him the baby would be Sydney if it was a girl he said please don't name her Sydney, name her a pretty little girl's name. I asked him what he thought would be a pretty little girl's name and he said Sam.
This is fun, too Named my/ our first after a member of America’s First Family of Atheists. Let that member know, too. She was honored ~
Went through the entire index of Sunset’s Western Encyclopedia of Gardening to find the second ...I’ve the list somewhere, for her.. Twas a hit, she’s unique ~
No one.....although dad wanted to name me Bartholomew. Mom put the ixnay on that right quick.
@Paracosm We come from very smart women.
It as a bone of contention my family, my father insisted I was named for his best friend from his youth, my mother insisted I was named after her great Aunts fiancé who was killed in WW1 at the Somme.
I would count either to be an honour.
Though some relatives have said the same to me as with you I was named after neither St. Lennard nor St. Leonard (my mother being a strict Salvation Army officer had no truck with saints and thought them Catholic idolitary)
I was named after my uncle who was killed on a minesweeper in WW2
I was named Amy because my parents wanted an uncommon name, that I wouldn't have to share with a dozen other kids at school.
Amy was the second-most popular name, the year I was born. Go figure.
To be fair, this was in the days before the internet. I can't really blame them for not knowing.
Amy was also my mother's name, though it was a close run thing, at the font apparently my grandfather tossed a coin to decide between Amy and Hazel, just as well it turned out as it did or else once she married my father she would have been Hazel Hazell
