‘Over here,’ Religion has become competitive. Without a ‘state religion’ to collectively disrespect, folks were left to ‘pick one.’ Like choosing a favorite sports team!
They did, it became their identity, and perhaps their ultimate downfall.. But don’t attempt to tell them that - you’d have become their ‘Devil!’ I’d say deep down, they’re ashamed of having been duped … but instead of coming clean, they double down ..like their current ‘commander in chief’ 
But before anyone starts feeling too uppity, keep in mind … we’re the largest melting-pot in human history.. so the crap you see is coming from many sources ~
