I was having my Honda worked on today and I saw a patriotic book lying on the table. The cover showed a large American War Eagle surrounded by a flag and when I looked closer the words 'The New Testament' were written on it in Gold......It was a copy of the Christian Bible with 19 songs and a Discipleship Program. This contained 12 lessons with the following titles: Salvation, Assurance, Public profession, The church of the New Testament, Giving, Prayer, Confession of sin, Enemies of the believer, Witnessing and Faithfulness. And then the final page which I have attached below which was headed 'Record of Events' and which listed accomplishments that needed to be done and recorded...... Who was it that said "When fascism comes to america, it will be wrapped in a flag and carrying a cross".
Facisim has come to America and it is wrapped in a flag and a cross. These are scary times if you believe in freedom from religion and religious zealots, because they are all in our government. Hope that will change in 2020.
I agree, the right wing is trying to ride the Trump presidency to a point where they can assume dictatorial power, I have never been more afraid for my country than what I am now. Also, I live in the country, NW of Atlanta, and I am surrounded by religious Trump supporters (hateful people), and what I miss the most is the lack of friendship that they offer. I am from the old part of Pennsylvania, and until Fundamentalism came along, everyone shared and worked together, and I still desire that.
i agree. but fascism here has more than its trump face. feminism and BLM are every bit as fascistic. and that delema will lead our planet to the collapse of our biosphere and the end of our pseudo "intelligent' life
"It is for the good of states that men should be deluded by religion." Marcus Terentius Varro (116 b.c.e. - 27 b.c.e.)
When religion is state, it goes double. Add, a Paradise/Utopia 'carrot on the stick' leading from the front and the seven devils chasing from behind and need for cooperation between them clarifies.
Pethaps Varro's point of view developed from observing food supply as a secondary ally of both entities used for guidance. He was an agriculturist. The sacred cow from back woods theology to the halls ov Congress in this country has always been the aggrandized American farmer.
I guess your car takes a long time to get work done on. I agree that there is something a bit scary about conflating religion and patriotism. I don't know you said that sentence, but they were probably correct. Secularism is cooler. (Though I do wonder how those wonderful countries with universal health care sometimes have kings and queens and state religions.)
