I'm jealous. I'm trying to learn Korean now. I wish I had grown up bilingual because I'm having a terrible time trying to remember even the simplest things. It's really aggravating. I can decode Spanish and imitate Korean conversation perfectly but have ~20% comprehension.
awesome.
Every time I hear people talking in a different language I remember something I heard a really stupid person say in public. "They are all talking about rocket secrets." Yea, I thought that is what everyone knows about, rockets. I then tell them to make sure they teach their children that language, I was in college and could not learn another language no matter how hard I studied. I later learned I have a learning disorder and once I realize the problem a solution was possible. Not that I know another language. People who speak several languages have a advantage.
The US does not have an official language.
For the most part, is it not true that the 'language' is not what is being complained-about ?
I often regret my inability to speak another language but when I try I seem to be hopeless.
I am extremely proud thay my son.daughter-in-law and 2 of his 3 children are already bilingual or working on it.
Most other countries start language training in grade school. Until we do that we will never benefit from this facility
German was also a very prevalent language on the East Coast original thirteen colonies and came close to being part of our system of language.
Spanish is a beautiful language and useful in the US. I wish I had learned Spanish when I was young.
Americans are now the least literate peoples among any of the advanced nations. We complain about anything being spoken differently.
This is true. Most Europeans speak several languages. The US is behind the world.
@sassygirl3869 Yep, and not just in linguistic skill. In science, history, math - all the academics. In about one generation we've gone from being at or near #1 in the world for most studies, to dead last. But, if Americans studied history they would see that we've fallen into the exact same patterns that all superpowers/empires end up falling into.
But no other empire has ever been this heavily armed when they collapsed -- that is a bit scary.
