If they would, cut off all US money going there, including SS. Take away all the military bases. Shut down all federal programs. Cut off all veterans pay and such. See how long they would take that.
In that case, we can have an atheist president within 10 years. I like the deal.
Only if they take Kentucky and the other red states that do not pay as much into the federal government as they take back. Texas is one of the few red states that pays in more than it receives; i am pretty sure that even they would get tired of paying for other states if they had to do so on their own.
This is like the billionth time they're tried. And the self protection is sadly almost valid in Florida.
Secede to where Mexico.....lol
We will be an independent Republic of Texas that we were once and the local militia will protect the new Texas.
Secession, or efforts to do so, seems at times to be as American as apple pie. The mining town of Rough and Ready, California, in the gold-rich Sierra Nevada foothills, voted to secede from the Union in 1850. One wonders just how many regions, counties and towns have, over the years, voted to 'break away.'
A list of states that could secede without my noticing or much caring:
Texas
Florida
Georgia
North Carolina
South Carolina
Oklahoma
Nebraska
Kansas
Iowa
Kentucky
Tennessee
Arkansas
Alabama
Nevada
New Mexico
Arizona
North Dakota
South Dakota
Alaska
Texas again
But they would notice when their federal funds went away. The states in the middle of the country get a LOT more funding proportionately than they put into the tax coffers, and yet they complain like hell about being overtaxed and over-regulated. They are emblematic of the noisy minority who think we should be back to business as usual, no matter what global pandemic is killing Americans by the thousands. I don't think "idiots" is too harsh a term. Not everyone in each of those states, of course, but for crying out loud, the governor of Georgia is opening up again already and even Trump knows that's a bad idea.
Most of those states get more back in federal aid than they pay in through taxes. I say most, as Texas is a plus giver.
What issue does Texas want to secede over now? Last I heard, they wanted to secede when Obama was president. I thought a lot of Texans were happy when Trump was voted in.
Texas thinks a Democrat President will ask United Nations troops to come and take over Texas towns. It really happened during Obama. A sheriff in a Texas town asked the local militia to get ready with their weapons. The previous longest time serving Governor Rick Perry said many times that Texas should secede from the Union. I have talked to many people in rural Texas and this is what I heard - Jews from New York will come and take our lands. That's why we will not give into the Yankees.
@St-Sinner - I was aware of the talk about Texas secession especially when Obama was reelected. Residing in Texas, I wanted to know how I could sucede from Texas to remain within the US if Texas secession became a reality. I also recall the nonsense fears of Obama taking over the state (I think the term they used was "invasion" ). Certain Texas militia groups went out to moniter regular military exercises conducted in the state to be certain they didn't turn into an invasion force. I understood that most Texans were satisfied with Trump, so I wondered what issue had brought up the subject of Texas sucession recently.
