Happy Thanksgiving
I don’t think of Thanksgiving as a religious holiday. Many countries have it (even Germany) and ours is based on sharing it with some ‘heathen’ Native Americans (or vice versa). I once asked a British friend if they celebrated the holiday. He said yes and it is the 4th of July (he probably feels especially thankful these days).
Perhaps some could share their celebrations. There is a trio of households here that rotate hosting the meal. We are vegetarians (one would be surprised at the breadth and variety of food) and others are always welcome (especially carnivores). I just read a secular invocation in the FFRF newsletter I think is apt (but maybe not for us). “Gentle being, we thank you for dying for us that we might live. We shall strive to do you honor as you become human”. Lenora Good Washington
enjoy a day in which, if you're lucky, the corporation will pay for you to sit at home and .......
You could alter it to say... Gentle being, (turkey) we thank you for dying for us that we might live. We shall strive to do you honor as you fill our tummies.
Happy Thanksgiving.
check out Wednesday's thanksgiving scene from the Addams family movie.!!
I was going to use this at our gathering but, since there will be non-vegetarians there I didn't want to make a possible divisive remark. Also, I remembered a Steinbeck quote (I think it was Steinbeck) about animals getting their revenge in the end. I saw so many quotes from many famous people that I decided to back off the animal dying thing.
One I saw was kind of 'interesting' to say the least. Hope you don't mind me citing it.
“I sometimes think, would I drink the milk from the breast of a woman I don’t know? No. So I think, why would I drink it from a cow.”
Devon Aoki, actress
Ever hear of "wet nurses" and donated breast milk? Many have fed on the breast of women they don't know. So why would I not drink milk from a cow?
Cow milk is not always digestible by humans. Lactose intolerance is common especially among some groups. Some, as I, have asymptomatic issues (it affects my immune system especially concerning sinus problems). With all the herders here I have heard Goat milk is closer to human than cow and Sheep milk is the closest.
