I had thought reduced hours or job-sharing may be one way of limiting some of the worst effects of mass unemployment. Better to share the employment and take a reduction in salary than to have a divided society with some working full time and others unemployed and on welfare. I am sure Ms Ardern knows what she’s doing...she has a good track record on making sensible decisions.

"There is no widespread, undetected community transmission in New Zealand. We have won that battle," Ardern said on April 27.

Does she really believe that? Pfft.

I still think all of this needs to be done in a two-week cyclical schedule, and not just the testing. Open things up for one or two days, then put the restrictions back in place for the rest of the two weeks, and continue with testing, especially surveillance testing. Then see where the numbers are.
