The Army won't allow soldiers who claim to be followers of Flying Spaghetti Monster to wear beards. Hmm. They allow Sihks to do so.
Personally, I don't think any religion should have any special rights.
What if a macaroni beard glued to the chin is part of the required dress code for some sects of the Church of the FSM? Haha! I'm sure a religious text could be found somewhere regarding that, somewhere. (Sorry didn't read the twitter post, since I don't have an account.)
So, are you advocating the repeal of the First Amendment to the US constitution ?
@motrubl4u . . . the OP says "I don't think any religion should have any special rights" and YOU don't think the First Amendment has ANYTHING to do with this discussion ?
REALLY ?
@motrubl4u That amendment ONLY applies to restrict what the government can't do -- ohhh did you NOT know that ? LOL
Private entities can pretty-much do what-they-want
@motrubl4u . . . sigh
I disagree. As long as it doesn’t affect good order and discipline, then it should be allowed. Part of the constitution is the freedom of religion. Soldiers/sailors/marines/airmen/coasties are all typically citizens. Their rights remain intact.
Is there a rational reason why the army doesn't allow beards? I love beards. If I were a man, I'd never shave again.
I was in the Navy. When I went inyo the service they had just made beards ouyside of regulayion as gas mask wpuld noy seal properly. There should be NO exceptions for religion. If the guy with the beard goes down because their mask did not seal properly, then the entire unit is at risk as he can no longer function. Every person is accountable for every one elses lives.
@motrubl4u Like dangly earings you mean?
@DavidLaDeau Well that sounds fair. I think if you don't meet the job requirements, you shouldn't apply for the job. The guy in the wheelchair might hold back the SAS so we can't make allowances just because it is discriminatory.
@MsDemeanour What? You mean the other side would not wish to make accommodations? P.S. without the SAS Americans would not have special forces.
Let’s not be idiots here. FSM is a fake religion which nobody has true convictions towards. Sikh is a real religion that people do have real convictions towards. They aren the same things.
I don’t understand people that follow FSM. They think they are being funny or clever, but to me it’s just disrespectful and unproductive.
All hail his noodle-y appendages !
They continually 'fight' for "non-religious" rights.
Sheik is a religious term?
I believe he meant Sikh.
@KKGator typo fixing. Bad phone, shame.
@Beowulfsfriend I'm always fighting with the auto-correct on mine.
Finally taught it to stop changing what I type to "ducking".
This was the whole point of the FSM religion was to prove that all religions should not be allowed special privileges.
This was proving such a problem and a threat that a coalition of churches took the matter to court and had the US supreme court rule that the "Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster" is not a real religion.
It was a fair bet they would win as a similar case some years ago ruled Scientology was not a real religion either, but was allowed to register as a charity and so retain it's tax exempt status. (Something the FSM has never even applied for.)
I'm waiting for the Covidiots and Trump Death Cult to claim that not wearing masks is required by their religion, whatever that may be. Church of Perpetual Stupidity? Latter Day Infections? Branch Coronaviridians?
@prometheus You know what the military tells anti Vaxxers - get the shots, or else get brought up on charges.
@Beowulfsfriend and probably even after all the generals have been replaced by Trump loving anti science drones they will still do that. Never listen to what his gang say, pay attention to what they do (of they aren't busy hiding it behind executive privilege).
