How ironic that Trump is objecting to being fact-checked on Twitter. When he can't freely post blatant lies every 15 minutes, he throws his weight around and threatens to use the power of the federal government to crack down.

Here's a thought- maybe if he were more truthful, he wouldn't fear fact-checking?

EDIT: From the Washington Post, here's the most compelling rational behind Trump's assault on social media's editorial freedom. Although they don't make the link directly, it's plain to see. [washingtonpost.com]

"The Trump campaign is creating an alternate reality online about coronavirus

There is little question the Trump administration bungled several key moments in the coronavirus response. Time was wasted. Delays led to a false sense of security. Shortages left medical personnel without needed protective equipment. But a quick glance through the social media feeds of the president, his campaign or his surrogates tells a different story.

The president and the White House often say they use social media because “fake news” coverage does not depict Trump’s achievements accurately. The Fact Checker video team analyzed thousands of Facebook, Twitter and YouTube posts and ads from Trump, his campaign and a long list of surrogates. The data revealed the backbone of a five-point strategy to tell their version of the coronavirus story: rewriting mistakes (such as, “everyone can get tested" ), highlighting achievements ("the China ban saved lives" ), deflecting blame ("the Obama administration left a bare cupboard" ), declaring victory ("it’s time to reopen the economy" ) and creating distraction ("Look! Michael Flynn!" ).

This nonstop, if often inaccurate, narrative of a successful response was then amplified by the campaign’s savvy digital infrastructure. All presidential campaigns try to portray their candidate in the best possible light, but the Trump campaign’s social media reach is helping to rewrite even the most recent history."

Trump and his administration are using social media to try and fool his followers into believing in an entirely different reality. Anything that hints at real life is unwelcome. Any contradiction is dangerous to their attempts at portraying Trump as the hero who saved the world from COVID, the innocent victim of a Democrat plot against his administration,
and whatever else they try to sell. This is the real reason he can't abide fact-checking right there in real time along with his own tweets. (Or is it twits?)

Is anyone surprised at Trump's reaction...this guy is so predictable at screaming “foul” and threatening to issue executive orders ..that it would be surprising if he didn’t do it!

You want logic from an imbecile?

There was another stupid guy who used the power of the federal government to attack his enemies... who was he...? Who was he...? Oh yea, his last name was Nixon.

@Fred_Snerd Yes of course, the list is long, but for my generation, this is the first that jumps to mind.

From what I have read, he wants to change a rule that gives platforms immunity to police themselves. If he does so, then those same platforms can be sued unless they either allow a free-for-all of anything goes and is said, or they crack down on all lies, etc to protect themselves from lawsuits (like the widower of the woman tRump alludes was killed by Joe Scarbourogh (S)) Twitter seems to be up to the challenger and looks like it will take the second option, forcing the tRump to find an other source to push his bs.
