Can anyone think of a good disclaimer or warning label for the Bible and other religious texts? For instance: "Not to be taken eternally" or "Keep out of reach of childish minds"
Poison: If accidentally Ingested, Induce Vomiting and Seek Emmediate Medical Attention
Caution: any relationship between the content of this text and reality are purely coincidental.
First of all, the bible should be removed from the Religion section (Dewey Decimal 200-299), and placed where it belongs, in Fiction. The problem here is that fictional works are arranged alphabetically by author. We know God didn't write it. So, does it go under James?
Secondly, the bible, like most cough syrups, should not be given to children under the age of 12. Religious education/indoctrination of minors is a form of child abuse.
Warning: May contain confusing and illogical subject matter.
Why do we need to apply these to religious texts at all? In a true secular society in which church and state is separated we shouldn't be applying labels to anything. People have to make up their own minds. You are suggesting behavior that is just as bad as proselytizing.
Or if I can use my new favorite phrase, DON'T BE AN ATH-HOLE.
