If you think that religion is not a good thing now, then what about the future.
In resent times, most if not all of the real progress in the human and moral world has been made by secular institutions like the UN publishing universal human rights, or non-denominational grass roots movements like Black Lives Matter. The only contribution of the worlds religions seems to have been, to rubber stamp things after the event, or oppose them on ultra conservative grounds. If the doing of good no longer requires religion, or is even slowed by it. Then what is left to religion, as the years go by, except to be increasingly the resort and refuge of everything that is not good.
If you want to do something worthwhile, then usually the first thing you have to do is to recruit some friends and allies to help you. Which may be hard enough if you want to do something good and useful. But where, and how, do you find support if you want something criminal or unkind.
Yet there is always one ally who is easy to recruit, and who will support you no matter how bad the cause. Because it is always possible to get God on your side. Since God does not exist, it has no conscience to offend, never presents arguments, asks for reasons or even demands a bigger share first. Yet though easy to recruit, god is a really good ally, since it brings with it much prestige, and for many people, even gives a stamp of confirmation to the truth of all you say, making it surely the first and best friend to the evil doer. Is it not therefore likely that religion will turn increasingly into a criminal activity, followed only by the cruel and greedy or their victims. If religion seems bad now what of the future ?
