6 corporatIons determIne what we hear and see on tv, radIo and all medIa
And while we're at it, remember the days of opposing opinions of responsible spokesman? Better know as the Fairness Doctrine, where broadcasters were required to present both side of an issue? The Republiturds made that go away, too. That gave us conservative talk radio, or simply hate radio. Then we had audiances hanging on and believing all the Limbaugh lies, and ever dear old Paul Harvey was no longer unbiased.
Since I mentioned Paul Harvey this should put a smile on your face...
I wish I still owned radio stations, I'd edit this, taking out the kitten part, then just quietly sneak it into a commercial break or two... Since my stations were in Oregon... My only concern, people that were Paul Harvey fans, but with a sense of humor, laughing so hard they drove off the road. I once heard a "News From Lake Wobegon" that was so funny I had to pull off the road and try to compose my wife and myself... I love it when things are that funny.
You can thank the Republicans for the loss of diversity in on-air TV and Radio. There was a law that you could only own 7 AM's, 7 FM's and 6TV's and the duopoly rule there you could only own one of each in a city. Now there are many cities with a single owner of all broadcast media.
Cable has never been regulated, because it was initially to bring TV signals couldn't reach rural area and then became the delivery system we have today, pretty much without scrutiny. Save a technical requirement to provide better picture quality in the 1990's, mostly thanks to a company called TCI, which we dubbed "Terrible Cable Incorporated."
