This has to be the future, if the civilisations of Homo Sapiens are to survive. Truly abundant, virtually pollution free, energy. Enough to create fresh water for all and irrigate arid lands. Enough to allow everyone to harness it for light and power.
In 5 years time, those of us still around may see the first inklings of hope!

I'll believe it when I see the Sahara growing crops & grape vines in commercial quantities but I suggest primary usage of any power will be to build armaments and weapons to control hungry citizens.
Always the optimist, weren't you, my friend?
@Petter Lol. You mean that I have now changed as you use the past tense?
Unfortunately It takes way to much energy to create Nuclear fusion than the energy it creates for it to be a feasible form of energy at this point in time .Hopefully they can overcome this dilemma .
That's what the article is about. An international effort to create a commercial prototype fusion reactor.
@richiegtt It reminds me of the story of Æegidius Elling, a seriously "unsung" engineer who created the first gas turbine engine to produce more power than it used (11bhp) - in 1903.
Unfortunately, when he tried to increase power output the turbines would melt. It took metallurgy over 30 years to come up with sufficiently heat resistant alloys to produce the sort of power needed by a jet engine to power an aircraft.

@Petter This brings to mind the Chrysler gas turbine car that was a beautiful piece of Engineering .I remember it at the 1964 worlds fair and was intrigued by it .This engine consumed to much fuel to be a production vehicle and never made it to the consumer market .Its a magnificent vehicle .About 9 still exist .
@richiegtt That set me searching gas turbine powered cars. This article to which I have linked, was very informative and interesting. The final paragraph of the article really set me thinking.

This is amazing. I wasn't sure it was possible. It makes me wish I had more time to live. I'm going to miss out on a lot of stuff.
