I am busy getting ready for winter. I have been canning meat and vegetables and if I do things right, I will hardly have to leave this farm all winter. My next acquisition needs to be a dehydrator. I intend to avoid the virus at all costs.
City people assume they cannot grow food from community gardens and don't even ask around to eat local stay healthy away from stores where sick people eat
I am actually a livestock farmer on a farm. But I am afraid some cities ban people from having gardens, deeming them unsightly. It is high time we get folks to learn the old skills again. At this point, it is a neccessity.
Goat jerky ??
No, I have beef but no jerky. I sell the goats as that is a much higher priced meat than beef.
Good luck, and I wish you the best. I intend to avoid the virus at all costs too, but unfortunately
I don't have those kinds of resources available to me...lol
@GoodMan did you. Google community gardens upland California???
@Larry68Feminist There are some (community gardens) in neighboring towns, but I was referring specifically to having my own farm and not having to leave. Thanks for your interest.
I am doing my best to avoid it, staying home and all, and yet one neighbor in particular who has been a thorn ion my side since moving in, has decided the pandemic is the perfect time to get all buddy buddy with me suddenly. She showed up here to day, no mask, knocking on my door, only to reveal she had been driving the Amish who had/have the virus. SO I posted a sign on my door, don't even think of knocking without a mask on. Pushing 60 here, I cannot afford to catch this thing.
@goodman trumpolini and melania are quarantined 14 days from yesterday
I am a bit jealous, but wish you the best of luck! It sounds like you know what you are doing, so enjoy the results of your hard work!
I hope so, I do have a leg up coming from a family with a Mennonite background. While they left that way of life before I was born, it did not leave them. As a result, I grew up learning skills none of my city class mates learned. I use most of these skills all the time.
