Today I went to a religious program. Did not attend the program but had food they were distributing.

It is customary to give food after this religious function.

I respect food and believes it is the ultimate reality for which we strive.

What do you think about me going to this event?

As an atheist, did I do something wrong?

do you feel like you did something wrong??

Not at all. I do this all the time.

But an atheist friend of mine differs with me. He does not take part in any religious festivals nor he eat anything that connects him to churches, temples and mosques.

It is a gift for which you are supposed to express gratitude according to their norms. But... No one gets to tell you what to do with a gift. After a gift is given, it's yours to do with as you please.

If this organization is really practicing what Jesus taught in regards to caring for others (even those who do not practice the religion), then no. There should have been absolutely no strings attached.

If they tried to use it as a front for preaching and attempting to convert outside of displaying literature for anyone who wished to take it, then find another organization.

not sure I would call it wrong if you needed food but it would be kind to talk with those distributing it
