Well, I've done it again.... On my last day of work for the week, it seems like my brain won't shut down and keeps coming up with "just one more thing" I need to do before going to bed. It's as if I subconsciously don't want to miss any of the time I have off with just sleeping. And now here it is at 0-dark-hundred (5 in the morning for those of you who were never in the service), and in a couple hours I need to get ready to shuttle my kid to school and then run back to work for covid testing, since I was off on test day earlier this week.

The recurring question- do I try to catch an hour nap and take the chance of sleeping through my alarm? It's happened before. Or just make a pot of coffee like last week.

sigh Coffee pot, do your stuff....

I have similar problems, Wednesday night I had maybe and hour and a half of sleep.
Last night I made up for it with like nine hours of sleep, but you can't catch up like that.

Optimal nap time is apparently 20 minutes, with 7 minutes average to fall asleep. I give myself half an hour then grab a coffee if still needed 😉

There seem to be two kinds of people in this world.....the ones that can close their eyes and catch a nap for 20 minutes - an hour - whatever - and pop up feeling refreshed and energized. And the other ones who feel like they've been hit by a bus if they get anything less than a full night's sleep. And - perversely - the two types tend to migrate towards each other. hahahaha I seem to be able to "zone out" (not fully asleep) for a brief period of time and then get up and push on. Hubby's idea of a "short nap" is a minimum of two hours. 😉 Gotta figure out what works best for you....trial and error kind of thing.

My feeling is that if I were ever in a sleep study, they'd find that my ideal operating day is 30 hours, followed by 15 hours of sleep.

@Paul4747 They'll need you once they start colonising the moons of the outer planets.

I am not the right person to give u a solid advice ( for the future , since your fate was already decided for today 😂) but I ll tell u what I do .
My working days are 19 hrs long awake . Some times , most of times , 5 such days on the row .
Two hrs is better than none , I ll take it .
Some x if load permitted , I take 15 mnt nap in my chair at work . Whatever , I LL TAKE IT .
Next x take the 0500 nap and don’t worry , u will hear the alarm . And coffee when awake anyways , what’s the difference ?

You have the stamina of six normal people. If you could "bottle it" - you could make a fortune! 😉 😉

No. If you have a 2 hour sleep now, you'll wake up worse than if you hadn't slept at all. Set an alarm and just have a couple of 15 min sleeps waking up properly in between. That way you'll feel rested but won't have reached stage 4 sleep, from which you'd wake up feeling like crap.
