Republicans want you to be afraid of socialism. Fox, OAN, and Rush have thoroughly indoctrinated the Trump cult to use "socialism" as a loaded dog whistle. But, "socialism" means that we pool our resources to provide things for everyone. In America today, that includes:
All of these are part of the social democracy that governs the United States. If you don't like most or all of these, you could find numerous other places to live on the earth that would suit you better.
Too bad (too many) former Republicans promote the anti-socialism stance of the so-called libertarians.. Same garbage, minus the religion
The nation is screwed up royal -- due to the loss of it’s Fairness Doctrine - the only thing having prevented the one-sided propaganda networks currently feeding our single-minded poorly educated lock-step followers…
Hope for recovery is slim, though. It would take a revised Supreme Court, and I’m afraid our militant opposition is incapable of accepting that.
Some of my politically-astute friends think it will take a real revolution to get things straightened out.
@mischl I’ve friends like that, too. The Republican puppeteers have slowly brought us to a boil, not as much by choice, but due to previous safeguards within our system. With those safeguards removed, their wealth can purchase and distribute propaganda that angers, confuses, and motivates just enough holdouts that we may never regain a balance, let alone advance..
I fear the damage that’s led to trump, in addition to that he’s caused, will be forgotten long before it’s repaired. Most want to get back to ignoring what it takes to maintain their rights, while our worst will continue to take the nation from under them.
There’s definitely a contingent on the side of Good that’s ready to fight, but I doubt those necessary to win have been sufficiently awoken or provoked. Even around here ... it appears those wanting a revolution are actively working against the Democratic Parties current attempt to take it back through conventional means
The word "socialism" is a scare word used by conservatives for the past hundred years. I have no clue what they think that word means but I imagine that they think something quite loony.... probably involving gulags and bread lines or some such nonsense. Who knows?
I know quite a few conservatives and one thing I've noticed about them... it's simply how they think. If it's a problem that effects someone else but not them, then they don't care. If something helps them but hurts others, they don't care. If something helps others more than it helps them they are usually against it.
Also, conservatives seem to think they know more/better than experts, economists, scientists, and doctors regardless of their own education level or understanding of the problem/issue.
I see these qualities over and over in conservative co-workers, family members, friends, and people online.
You’ve described them well, I’ve noticed the same.
It appears they use various religions to justify looking out for only themselves. While they’ll tout their ‘moral superiority’ it’s a bald-faced lie shared by their kind in order to ‘justify’ their greed and disregard for humans, animals, nature, or the planet.
They are despicable, and have elected leadership to match.
@Varn @Charles1971 . . . a very good read :
. . . the "tax and spend Democrats" dog-whistle worked well in the past.
