As usual, I am very proud of myself.
I interviewed five people interested in being my Personal Assistant this week. I knew very quickly that two were not competitive so I kept those interviews short. Toward the end of the other interviews, I said that I was non-religious and that I would prefer the subject not arise during the course of the job. One man said he wasn't very religious either. The woman said she was spiritual, not religious. The other man said he was greatly relieved because he was agnostic.
Then I decided to push my luck a little further. I told him that I tried not to be political but was usually unsuccessful. He asked if we could discuss it further and I agreed. He said he always took the side of compassion. I told him that somebody told me once that they were a "compassionate conservative" and asked me what I thought about it. I told them I thought it was an oxymoron (true story). My new Assistant laughed and we commiserated over the current political fiasco. He starts tomorrow.
For a personal assistant, you need somebody that you can trust will use logic and common sense to get the jobs done.
Very well said. I had said in emails to the applicants that I wanted someone to stand in my shoes and do things the way I would have done them. I was looking for someone like me.
Many thanks to the vast majority of you for your support. Even just a "like" meant a lot to me. Please know that I am here to support you in the events of your life, also. Please never be afraid to ask. I sincerely believe that we are all in this together.
Good for you. This experience fits my thinking exactly.
Thank you, kind sir. I knew that some of the good folks here would understand what I was doing.
Interesting interviews.
I really enjoyed meeting all those people although I hated having to disappoint so many in the end. I always want to give the job to the person who needs it the most, but in the final analysis that can only be one consideration.
It is hard letting strangers into your home because they will not always be supervised, so you have 30-60 minutes to make your best assessment of who you trust the most and will work best with.
I think that was a justifiable process considering the times. Good luck to all three of you.
Thanks. My home is the job site. No prosthelytizing is one of the house rules, just like leaving the toilet lid down, that's all.
@LovinLarge how about we put it on a spring so it is always up, unless you want to put it down?
@Canndue It would still be a house rule.
@TO_BY Not familiar.
@TO_BY Thank you for that great compliment.
It’s my understanding it is illegal to ask questions about religious affiliation in interviews

I didn't ask any questions about religious affiliation.
What’s a personal assistant ??
Someone to help me accomplish the things I want to get done that don't require my personal attention.
A personal assistant is someone who does all the work so you can take the credit. lol
I have one myself. She's amazing. lol
@dermot235 I can see you doing that but it's not true in my case.
@LovinLarge can u give me an examble of what type of things he / she does ?? I am lost here .
@Pralina1 I'm sorry for not explaining it better. I am disabled and terminally ill and downsizing so as not to leave a big mess behind. He will have full responsibility for the yard, help me liquidate my small estate, assist with general household organization and run occasional errands. I also hired his gf as my housekeeper and they are going to help me with my book. All three of us are very excited!
@LovinLarge I see . Thank u for explaining !
@Pralina1 Thank you for asking.
Do you really do that?
Absolutely. I work pretty closely with my Assistant so it's important that we are able to get along.
@LovinLarge I have no idea what Labour laws are like in the US. But in Ireland where I live and for all of Europe, if you did that you would end up in court being sued for 2 years salary. It's called discrimination
@dermot235 False.
