Should we REALLY feel sorry for him?
So? We lock up any addicts who commit crimes, whatever the addiction that triggered it. It's no good arguing a sex addiction to condone rape or murder. Maybe we can give them enforced treatment, whilst in custody, such as chemical castration, but first and foremost addicts who commit criminal offences must be locked up
Thank you for this very important and timely piece. Often we feel we have some degree of control when we actually don't.
One item I would have liked to see is something about enabling. Too often we actually increase the addictions by becoming enablers. The part of "When a friend or family member has an addiction, the first priority is to take care of yourself..." is not taken seriously by far too many. Love must be conditional especially in the case of another's addiction. I once had a partner who was alcoholic and a part of her treatment was for me to go to Al Anon meetings. This self help, anti-enabling program should be mandatory for all.
I did the same thing for a spouse who gambled. She has remained abstinent for 20 years but we divorced, anyway, about 10 years ago. I learned a lot of hard concepts.
To the OP I think that we should have compassion for him, the way he was raised and praised made him who he is, but should take note of what we missed about him in 2016 that we should have paid attention to. I've believed, and still do, that he's a Russian asset who's mission is to kill the u$A. Melanoma is Putin's leash for him.
@rainmanjr People do overcome a bad upbringing. Considering the major harm he has done he deserves absolutely no sympathy. Big problem is there are far too many of use prone to confusing enabling with love.
Hell No! I wish nothing but bad things for him up to and including his death, which I hope is filled with fear and pain.
He didn't give those children any thought or show any mercy during his "reign", now did he? ...so ditto.
He needs intervention and rehab. His addiction is being fed by his millions of flying monkeys, who cater to his every tweet. That's the way narcissism goes, and he will continue to be that way until he is totally ignored, which isn't likely.
He revved up those "flying monkeys" daily by tweets and rallies.
