I’m starting to think it takes as much self hypnosis to not believe as it does to believe.
I think I’m definitely in the camp that doesn’t put much respect into someone that claims to know either way.
I think there is a distinct difference betwen people who were never asked to believe and didnt nad those who were introduced to it and gave up - Not ever having had a god is just simple - no problem just live your life best way you can. Morality is a choice- I think most of the soul searching and debating about terms for 'godlessness' is in it s own way a hangover from a religious past.
Maybe my original post was off. Belief and knowledge are definitely different. Thanks for helping me to personally distinguish that!
By hypnosis I meant fooling yourself
I don’t claim to know either way, I don’t know how anyone could.
All I, or anyone that I’m aware of, have to go to determine if something exists are my senses and reason. To believe without knowledge I guess I would call hope? That’s not necessarily bad ....

I love the scientific method, I don’t think we’re ever going to summit the mountain, which, to me, is awesome. I hate it that policies and laws are driven by religious beliefs. That is extremely dangerous and the cause of much unnecessary suffering and setbacks.
Science evolves and is not apologetic about uncertainty, it seems to tend toward it. I don’t think there is anything wrong or weak about claiming ignorance. I do think it at least lazy when claims are represented as fact without knowledge.
In all honesty, I’m still sorting out what I can and can’t get behind. ?

As a side note, quite a few cosmologists think the universe is infinite-this might allow for tooth fairy and unicorns and an infinite number of ‘other’ things.
I don’t think we even come close to knowing what we don’t know, all ridiculousness aside.
