Just formed a group where people can debate and discuss what the terms atheist and agnostic mean. Check it out at "Atheist vs Agnostic"

I mean it’s pretty straight forward. Atheism is a lack of belief in god and agnosticism is lack of knowledge in relation to god claims. They aren’t mutually exclusive and agnostic isn’t a middle ground. The vast majority of “agnostics” are actually agnostic atheists.

Good for you I always wanted this - (I don't mean to join)

I’m a bit curious what good it is to argue the meanings of words? It’s the ideas that count, not that the arbitrary labels we use.

I personally do not care. If you are on this site long enough or search the posts you will see how often this topic comes up

@btroje Yeah, you have a point. I’ve been on here just a bit over a week and I’ve encountered it many times.

@indirect76 Thanks. I am not saying I have a special answer, just that with all the new people arriving it is a very common topic that is covered many times

On auto repair and other Fixit sites there is a big search banner displayed on the first page at the top, might be a good idea?

that would be something to suggest to Admin

Good idea: a place to (hopefully) funnel this perennial discussion. Not that it's going to stop newbies from posting about it, but hopefully they'll respond well to some gentle redirection toward the group...

Maybe some more groups can/should be formed for this purpose?

Or, "sticky-ing" popular, well-written, representative posts/threads to the homepage,* or elsewhere? For those well-worn and site-specific topic threads such as "Atheist vs. Agnostic", "Coming out to family", "Prayer at family meals", etc. There have already (several times) been some really great threads that cover these kinds of things that I think should not be missed, and of course we largely tend to get tired of responding to the same posts, or stop responding altogether...

  • @Admin, what do you think, about linking/"sticky-ing" exemplary posts?

that sounds like a good idea. maybe better than a group. I am a greeter and when I figure out how I will prbably put a link to the group with a mild apology for those who don't need it
