Nobody wants to go to a liberal shithole so they are paying people to go there. Maybe you liberals are interested?
The real shithole places are all in conspiratorial, tRump loving, republican states.
Is there a political point to be made here, or just lowbrow name calling?
Not being blind, I can see the political point, which is: The Democrats have turned the state of California into a shithole, and tourism suffers as a result. I hope that helps.
@PBuck0145 The thing that has turned a lot places undesirable is not about politics but nature. Climate Change and overpopulation is one big problem in California. To most republicans everything is about politics and it is NOT.
@PBuck0145 As a native "shitholian," it seems to me that arguing over the cause of suffering tourism in our state in the midst of a global pandemic is a bit like trying to rearrange the deck furniture on the Titanic.
@PBuck0145, @Thirst2learn Is it really necessary to use 'shithole' language when assailing regions of the country with whose majority you disagree? It reminds me of a former president who used the very same language when referring to countries he disapproved of. Perhaps it's time to graduate to a level of discourse that doesn't include ad hominems and vituperative vitriol? Ideas and concepts are more important than those who espouse them.
Shhhh, keep it quiet. Bernie and his socialist wacos will get the wind of it and may start asking that we be like North Korea.
@Thirst2learn I think the example of North Korea as a supreme 'shithole' nation is universally accepted, but we both know that was not one of the countries listed as a source of immigration when the offensive label was used. Be that as it may, wouldn't you rather engage in a discussion of ideas and concepts than hurl epithets, or has your Thirst2learn dried up?
Do you know that there are shitholes on far right and far left? Bernie Sanders is our shame, I know but what about shithole states in the South? Most Southern states that rank at the bottom in every good category?
@Thirst2learn Probably either because they are desperate or because they are old and have poor circulation. Just finished watching a program on the 10 best states to live in and Texass did not make the cut. #1 was Washington.
You have a crooked world view of things. A fair and even close to accurate criticism is ok but it seems to me you grew up in bigoted and brainwashed community and don't seem to have a center.
People are moving from New York because of remote working. There is no need to have your home with family close to the building any more. Most are moving to suburbs like Long Island, Staten Island, North New Jersey, and Connecticut. A very few are going to states in the South. Nobody is going to shithole and bottom of the barrel Southern states like Mississippi, Alabama, Arkansas, Louisiana. Do you know that these states rank at the bottom in every good category and some African and Asian states have better statistics than them? How do you not see that?
And do you know that Fox News is not fair and balanced? I am because I know and point out our own shameful baggage here all the time.
Musk left because of taxes and regulations. Ask anybody in the US this question.... "If money was not an issue which place would you choose to live?"
I have been asking this question to friends and all at work for the last 25 years. The majority said California. There is no doubt that no other state comes even close to the natural beauty, openness, compassion, being least racist, least religious, most technology and clean energy driven and as much with a wide variety of agricultural produce as California.
@Thirst2learn Like a typical liberal, I looked it up and one cause of the population 'loss' was due to the coronavirus. There were other reasons as "high taxes, excessive, job-killing regulations, and a rising crime rate."
First off there is a difference between socialism and communism. Much of Europe has socialistic policies (I lived there for 15 years so I know) which made life better for everyone and reigned in the excessive tendencies of corporations. People, like Musk, leaving an area is to get away from paying their fair share to the society that supports them.
The biggest problem, again, is the crashing of our environment due to too many of us. Population gain by one, very invasive species, us, is destroying the natural support system on which all life depends. I am a member of Negative Population Growth so no one can tell me losing population is a bad thing. One of the things that made Washington State the no 1 state to live in was it's amazing natural environment.
Do you know being a liberal is an honor? Liberal means peace loving, not bigoted, less religious, more humanist, open minded, compassionate, science loving person?
That is the exact opposite of a conservative in the South.
@St-Sinner Actually on the YouTube segment on the 10 worst states Mississippi came in #1 (worst). Many states in the south were on the list. One thing most had in common was poor infrastructure maintenance (a government duty).
Bill Maher did a series on HBO on "America's Stupidest State" and he went into rural areas of Alabama, Mississippi and alike. He asked simple questions like "Who was America's First President?". Almost no one was able to answer it correctly. It was hard to decide who was more stupid.
I also remember there was a nationwide survey on extra marital affairs by demographics and geographical location in the US. It was found that the family values pumping, church going, Bible thumping and god loving Southern states were high in marital infidelity. Lol
@Thirst2learn Yes, it does to some people with no imagination or understanding of ways this can be achieved without violence and death (something, it seems, conservatives can't seem to get their head around).
Okay, last time I will answer an insult. One way or another this is over.
@St-Sinner Thank you for pointing this out. Seems odd (not) that when the education system is flawed (as it is in many of those states) that people are basically stupid.
