The abolitionist movement in the US was begun by Christians who disregarded the many sections in the Bible, both Old and New Testaments, that uphold the institution of slavery--passages that were quoted from the pulpits of Christian churches in every slave holding state in the Union, prior to, during and perhaps even after the Civil War.

A century later, Christians and their churches were at the forefront of the Civil Rights Movement while some of the same Christian churches that had backed slavery, blatantly supported Jim Crow segregation, anti-miscegenation and racial integrity statutes and policies.

Since Christianity was founded by people of the Levant, and is embraced by people of every ethnicity, I'm hard pressed to concur with Camara's statement. Christianity is a crude tool used to support opposing sides of many moral arguments. That said, the fact that the Bible isn't explicit in condemning slavery or even bigotry, enables the racist to claim to be a true Christian.

There are plenty of racist atheists. Some even on this very site.

If you want your ideas carefully tested against the best rules and methods humans can invent. Science.
If you want your ideas to stand up to reason and logic at least. Philosophy.
If you have a really bad idea that you want to promote, without any checks or safeguards, and you don't care if it is true or not. Where do you go to find your platform and some help?

Wait it will come to me, I am sure it begins with a 'R', I will get back to you when I remember.

I'm racist in a way. I venture you are too. I think everybody is. (I'm using the word 'racist' in it's broadest, most benign sense.) Neither one of us are Christian. We have government in part to hold 'human nature' in abeyance. But that's just my nonhypocritical opinion.

Totally disagree.
When a Sikh hates a Hindu, or an Indian hates a Pakistani or an Israeli, there is nothing Christian about it, white supremacy does not enter in to it.
It is perfectly possible for a white person to be subject to racism, ask the Irish about that.
The Chinese and the Japanese have loathed one another for generations.

I am not saying that Christian racism does not exist it certainly does, but racism predates it by thousands of years.
