I've actually been there. My late former in-laws lived in the southern St. Louis suburbs, and late former father in law was a boy scout troop leader and a history buff. And a chemical engineer but that is not relevant to Cahokia Mounds. Yeah, we heard lots about Cahokia Mounds.

Were they the same people who had the mounds in Spiro ,Oklahoma?

Mississippian culture....yep!!!

They disappeared in the 14th century, before discovery and European invasion. Maybe disease or natural disaster. Mississippian culture got wiped out somehow.
