I'm not sure if this belongs more in the Politics forum instead of here, but I'll post it in Health And Happiness for now. I have recently noticed a significant increase in people not wearing masks to the grocery store, and all of them appear to be young adults and teenagers. My state no longer has a mask mandate, so stores are now left in the position of recommending masks, but they can no longer require it, at least not with any legal backing beyond refusing service to someone or asking them to leave. I think it boils down to the young people being selfish and realizing they are not at any serious risk or dying or getting seriously ill, so they just don't care anymore about whether they get Covid or spread it to anyone older or sicker than them. Same attitude as the spring breakers were showing in Florida last month. Has anyone else been seeing this trend in their area?
So it appears that some of the younger folks in my area are choosing to be maskholes....
In my state (Indiana), it's no longer a mandate. I'm now in the minority for wearing my masks. My business partner was just exposed over the weekend and many of my clients are elderly. I have to be safe. I couldn't bear the thought of getting someone else sick or maybe dead.
You are a good and caring man, clearly an exception in your local area. I wish you, your business partner, and your clients the best and hope they can stay healthy.
"Not wanting others to die" is a low fucking bar, I'm just surrounded by idiots.
So far, no one has said anything to me about wearing a mask. I've seen plenty without though, and I think they're selfish assholes, I don't care what age they are.
Same with the ones who don't wear them correctly.
Their "reasons" are complete bullshit.
I don't believe any of them have the right to put someone else's health at risk.
I live in GA. Our governor opened the state in May 2020, outlawed city mask mandates, and required schools open with in person attendance instead of Zoom. In blue counties, you’ll see some masks, esp university counties. In more rural red counties, you’d likely not see any and are very likely to be verbally harassed for wearing one. It’s largely why I am being vaccinated. I can fairly well count on others around here to do the wrong thing.
Getting vaxed will at least protect you against dying or getting seriously ill, but it won't stop the maskholes from infecting you. Too bad you have to depend on the vax to prevent others who don't give a shit about you from killing you or seriously harming your health. But that's how Trumpers are about everything, all about me...
@TomMcGiverin I hear you, loud and clear. I won't go nuts doing crowded things, but actually entering a grocery, if not crowded might be a risk I might take, along with some controlled travel, finally.
@Zster One thing I've been missing, since Covid became bad, is visiting one of my old friends in the Kansas City area. Once both of us finish vaxing, I intend to visit him again for a weekend sometime in May.
I'm in Texas and it is not limited to the young.
That is my point as well.
Right now, where I live, it's just the young, even tho most people here are Trumpers. It seems the older Trump supporters finally started doing the right thing out of sheer self preservation, not because they cared about others. There are exceptions, like the old ladies in my condo community who play cards a couple times a week sitting close together around a table without masks. But no doubt they have all been vaxed by now due to their age. I also see the staff people who work around my community never wearing masks, and they are all older folks too.
