One of my Uncles, my Father's older Brother, died in a B24 over Germany in March, 1944. My Mother and Father conceived me that Month. My Father always always seemed stoic but he had tears on memorial day. As a young child I did not understand. Now I know. RIP Uncle Kenneth.

I have not lost any family members directly due to military service, but military service changes people and affects them for the rest of their lives. My Uncle Kenneth served in the Navy for over 20 years, he was too young to serve in WW2, but he saw conflict in Korea. This episode of M-A-S-H says it well.
