Freezing forever a moment of childhood innocence
Photographer William C. Beall captured a moment between a 2-year-old boy and a police officer in Washington, DC, that similarly captured the hearts of readers of the Washington Daily News when the photo was published in 1957. Beall was at a parade in Chinatown when a young Allen Weaver got too close to the dragons dancing down the street. Police officer Maurice Cullinane instructed Weaver to back up for his own safety, engaging him in a polite conversation immortalized on film.
I note that the kid is white.
Sadly, this would never happen today. Cops are no longer approachable or caring. They'd be armed to the teeth and unbending.
If you, who live in America, say so, I can only take your word for it. It isn't quite the same in England, I'm pleased to say.
