I sat through the whole Bill Maher show...it was OK...the young congressman interview was interesting....showing us youthful promise in D.C.. Chris Mathews was sharp. John Kasich was on a soap box pitching political speeches...but the highlight of the show can from the New Rules near the end of the show...weigh in and let us know what you think!
Bill is correct as respects college. I have B.S. & J.D. degrees so I am not jealous. I'm now retired, but when I was working I saw the company I worked for instituting various degree requirements for positions that did not require a degree.
When I visited my son's schools & teachers over the years I was disappointed in the quality of the teachers and the subject matter. Constantly teaching to the upcoming test is not my idea of teaching one how to reason and think.
He does have some very one sided points. However he doesn't mention that more education makes the society we live in much better. Otherwise we'd live in a country of (mostly) Trump supporters.
I agree that universities that have theme park like features shodl not be paid for with tax payer money. Personally I'd question the quality of education of any university that used such features toattract students.
For a long time there has been an argument about whether oo not students should only take courses in their field of have a well rounded education. As the well rounded education side has made gains, America has lost its edge, because innovation, problem solving and creative thinking does not (usually) come for a mind that studied just their one subject or field.
He says the costs of education has gone up 500% since 1985. Well Ronald Reagon started "trickel down economics, cutting taxes for the rich. So, the federal government had less money, so they cut programs to state and local governments, co now they had less money. So state and local governments raised taxes and fees to make up the difference. So, you pay higher DMV fees, higher sales taxes, Higher state income taxes, higher fees for hunting and fishing licenses, Hicher fees to use state parks, higher parking meter fees, HIGHER TUITIONS at state colleges (which enable private schools to raise their fees more), higher public utilities, higher taxes on cell phones (about one third of your bill) and so on, so the tax cuts for the rich have never really been tax cuts, but a transfer of the tax burden from the wealthy onto working people and the middl;e class. Every time there is a tax cut for the rich, somehow and some way the tax burden is just shifted onto working people and the middle class.
Anyway, this is NOT one of Bill's better bits.
I'm a Democrat but am a fan of John Kasich. i also loved the take on colleges.
I enjoy Bill’s take on every day life. I have to agree with him in this one!!
Will watch it later, but Maher has become insufferably sanctimonious on the whole.
Sadly, I concur. But he is a master of summary. He connects the dots faster than most...but yes...his negativity has become "insufferable"...I no longer subscribe to HBO and stay up late to watch his shows...I now wait until the next day to catch the highlights on Youtube.
Without DJT to continually berate, Bill Maher is recovering his former objectivity.
I hate when he writes a lame joke and it bombs with the audience, but then he blames the audience for being too sensitive. Take the feedback Bill and write something better.
.just as soon as bill gores the progressive ox, " slowly they turn ".
