Common sense
Evey time I see the word Common sense used in discussions about anything, I shudder. Common sense does exist as much as common Empathy or common Knowledge , It obviously has a value. It just needs a redefinition in the realm of problem solving.
Here is my definition of useful Common sense. It means that when you are particularly troubled you should brush up or switch on all your senses . Apart form the common 5 there is intuition, speculation and host of old age skills for getting AN answer. I
n no circumstances though should it be used to make decisions. This is because it also contains a whole lot of doubtful old wives tales , rumours, false news and title-tatle.
The 5 senses will always be useful in any human activity but all the rest can be substituted with science,
There you knew that was coming did you not?
Only graduating from the third grade...until recently,,,felt my use of common sense had held me in good stead.
Of course it IS a step on the ladder to A solution but I am crazy enough to want to assist others to climb higher, not to make any decisions for you . When was the last time when you said "I got there using common sense". Nice to hear from you again.
@Mcflewster and you....find myself seldom "getting there"......usually just "wind up" there....often wondering how....sometimes with amusing results....life is good..
I would define common sense as, the flip side to the, ad populum fallacy. In other words, certain axioms of life which are so widely accepted, that they are usually regarded as common to all people, basically true, and only to be questioned under extreme circumstances.
For example. The idea that a person with a hidden agenda, and/or a person likely to profit from a judgment going one way rather than another, is less likely to make an accurate and unbiased judgment than a disinterested person. As in. "John says that United and Co. make the best groundhog bum wipes." "Yes but to apply a little common sense. John was employed by United and Co. for many years, and probably has his pension with them."
I think you are saying that "Common Sense" is a " SALES WHEEZE"
