This might come as a surprise to many of you.
"Ultra-conservative radio host Jesse Lee Peterson once said divorced parents who get remarried don’t really love their children because blended families are an abomination.
If that’s the case, he must be a huge fan of monogamous gay marriages, right?
Of course not. He said on his show yesterday that same-sex couples shouldn’t be allowed to adopt kids because they don’t have the mental capacity for it. And because they apparently beat each other."
I am pretty convinced that most of these broadcast god-botherers are just cynically pushing buttons to keep their constituency paranoid and sending them money. It requires too much cagey awareness to do that, and actually believe the BS you're spouting.
Paranoia is irrational so pushing button A and button B can logically conflict with each other and it doesn't matter. So button A = blended heterosexual families and button B = unblended homosexual families doesn't matter because they are looking at 2 different perceived existential threats (divorce and homosexuality) and they are ignoring the commonalities in A and B because (1) cherry-picking your facts is the only way to hold the belief-system together and (2) critical thinking just causes cognitive dissonance and FUD (Fear, Uncertainty and Doubt) so why bother.
I like that, very succinct and without resorting to sarcasm as my comment did.
Beating each other being, of course, totally unheard of in male-female relationships.
Conservative, rightwing evangelicals are always on the lookout for new reasons to boost ratings and keep their audience faithful.Thinking of how to restate the same tired message in a new yet understandable way for a limited brain-dead audience must be very stressful.....
