I say creativity cannot be defined. Imagination. The arts.
So, I challenge one and all to define/ describe/ predict creativity in terms of at least one of the following;
How?
When?
Where?
Who?
What?
Why?
It seems to me that everything we have comes either directly or indirectly from evolutionary forces. Generic creativity is useful in problem-solving, but artistic creativity is likely little more than fitness display, as with the peacock's tail. If you can afford to waste your energies on something so impractical, however lovely, then you must certainly have plenty of resources for more important things, like raising my offspring. Ha! Leave it to humans to totally confound evolution's methods. The peahen would be disappointed indeed to find she had mated with a starving artist!
Lol -- and only a starving artist human would be creative enough to mate with a peahen!
If it couldn't be defined, the word itself would have no meaning... so I'm confused as to what the confusion is.
Creativity describes the quality of one who creates. It is not the same as originality. You can make the same popsical stick birdhouse over and over again... and you would be considered creative, if not original. It's just someone's ability and or desire to produce a product.
Back in school we had this discussion: the teacher and students came up with 'anything man-made'. I would consider the design and prototype of a chair and setting up the machines that mass produce it an art form. But the mass production of said chair -- no, that is not art, it is more science. To define it absolutely? No, no more than to define science absolutely. It comes down to personal interpretation -- which is where absolutes have no basis in facts, only truths.
You had to be creative to make this post ”creative” is a verb, it has nothing to do with the opinions or weather or not someone thinks it’s worthy of adulation. “How” deciding to organize your thoughts to pose your assertion, “when” was of your choosing, “where” was here, “who” was you, “what” was this post and “why” remains a question.
The act of making that which did not exist before. Not limited to the arts; a bridge designer creates, a pharmacologist creates, as a sculptor creates.
@powder a pharmacist is following a recipe, a pharmacologist is creating them. Otherwise that word salad was lovely.
I’m not gonna look it up, but I’ll bet there’s a definition
Acting on impulse outside the influence of others. Art was one of few things I did well. Before the ‘assignment’ was given, I’d have formed a concept. Digging in, it was like no one else's. Twas a zone of inspiration and imagination, and a little pushing the boundaries... It was creativity ~
@powder Creativity: “noun: creativity
the use of the imagination or original ideas, especially in the production of an artistic work.
synonyms: inventiveness, imagination, innovation, innovativeness, originality, individuality, artistry, inspiration, vision, enterprise, initiative, resourcefulness”
See my post on music with song "Construction". THAT IS CREATIVITY. Chico Buarque took an accident of a construction worker falling to his death and turned into a Magical Song. You are asking too many questions. My answer is that Video.
"You are asking too many questions." Thought the same, felt more like 'reporting' than creating
