The Looming Threat Of Global Warming
The world is on fire how about yours? That's the way I like and I never get bored. - Smash Mouth
We might as well be walking on the sun. - Smash Mouth
Look I don't mean to be the bearer of bad news and whatever, but if we like don't like drastically reduce our carbon footprint in say the next ten to twenty years or even less, we might not have a planet earth anymore. Earth is getting hot, the sea levels are rising, the west coast is on fire, and species after species are disappearing at such a alarming rate that we all are entering a new period of a world wide extinction event. Meanwhile our politicians and their corporate cronies get richer and the poorer get poorer and the living expectancy of the general population continues to plummet. And I am not saying all of this cause I want to be chicken little either who cried the sky is falling, the sky is falling the sky is falling! But the sky is really fucking falling ok. Over and out.
Totally agree. There’s no such thing as hope…….that only exists in the minds of the gullible and the naive. It’s just a matter of time before the roof totally caves in. I have little doubt about it.
@AtheistForLife Many have seen the writing and tried, or are trying, to address it but I think we've passed the tipping point. It is not our planet in peril, however. It is the lives of species (human being one of them) that might not survive. Oh well. On to the next act of the great play. It's far more likely that some will survive, in pockets that are geographically protected, and they will go on. I do not plan on surviving the event one way or the other, however, because I'm old to begin with and what I can not know about does not occupy my thoughts. Therefore I make no predictions for what might come about but the last stanza offers thoughts.
Before the Deluge
Jackson Browne,
Some of them were dreamers
And some of them were fools
Who were making plans and thinking of the future
With the energy of the innocent
They were gathering the tools
They would need to make their journey back to nature
While the sand slipped through the opening
And their hands reached for the golden ring
When their hearts, they turned to each other's hearts for refuge
In the troubled years that came before the deluge
Some of them knew pleasure
And some of them knew pain
And for some of them it was only the moment that mattered
And on the brave and crazy wings of youth
They went flying around in the rain
And their feathers, once so fine, grew torn and tattered
And in the end they traded their tired wings
For the resignation that living brings
And exchanged love's bright and fragile glow
For the glitter and the rouge
And in a moment they were swept before the deluge
Now, let the music keep our spirits high
Let the buildings keep our children dry
Let creation reveal its secrets by and by, by and by
When the light that's lost within us reaches the sky
Some of them were angry
At the way the Earth was abused
By the men who learned how to forge her beauty into power
And they struggled to protect her from them
Only to be confused
By the magnitude of her fury in the final hour
And when the sand was gone and the time arrived
In the naked dawn only a few survived
And in attempts to understand a thing so simple and so huge
Believed that they were meant to live after the deluge
Now, let the music keep our spirits high
Let the buildings keep our children dry
Let creation reveal it's secrets by and by, by and by
When the light that's lost within us reaches the sky
