FWIW, I think the dance is choreographed and the end is already known. Sinema might be aggravating but she's caucuses with Dem's. If she doesn't appease that red, red, state then she won't be caucusing with anyone. Manchin is taking media flack for her and it seems, to me, that it's working. In the end she, and he, will vote yes. I think Sinema hits stop at $2.75T and her state goes wild over how she pawned the Dems. That would be brilliance.

Nation-building is code language or rationalization for imperialism, which the US has been in the business of for most of its existence, following in the footsteps of the British, who taught the practice to our leaders. At least the British learned enough from their mistakes to get out of the practice of imperialism decades ago, but not us..

What is your point, that we are overly negative because we don' throw a parade for Biden because he finally finished a withdrawl that Trump had already begun? This war should have ended long ago, while Biden was Obama's VP, so no hero cake for him....Unless one is not cynical enough or brain dead, as I said below, we will begin the next long war soon enough, in a country to be named later...

@TomMcGiverin for real. Biden is basically center right on the international political scale. He's as liberal as Eisenhower was. We've moved so far right in this country that people think that's liberal, but it's not at all.

I am so fucking sick of how deluded Americans are about where our politics stand against Europe or the rest of developed countries that are so-called democracies, where Bernie Sanders, for crying out loud, would be seen as a centrist, not a communist or even a socialist, under Euro standards. But few Americans will ever realize this, as about the only ones who ever actually travel abroad and learn what the rest of the world is like, are the rich, who have a vested interest in our corporate media keeping the rest of America ignorant and gullible for all the lies about America being the best system around. And outside of the rich, the few other Americans who end up traveling abroad and seeing how the rest of the world works, are those career military personnel, and they, like the rich, end up buying all the propaganda the military gives them about how we are the best, etc., since it helps them feel more comfortable and proud of their occupation, instead of living with doubts or guilt, which most people are not strong enough to allow themselves to feel.

@TomMcGiverin If POTUS Joe succeeds with half of his agenda he will be a national hero. We can then get the other half at that time but neither will happen if we throw him to wolves. I would not advise looking at this from a negative side but I also genuinely disagree. We gave them a decade long look at Western life and that's hard to bottle up. I think this is a golden opportunity for the women of Afghanistan to become a rebel force against The Taliban. Women are fierce warriors and they are looking into Hell itself. That we showed them the alternative might prove of great importance.

YES. Our torn, tattered Constitution has major problems. And the very structure of our republic has systemic defects. We need to overhaul and improve our method of choosing leaders.
