One doesn't need a crystal ball to see that, in the future, Kabul will be an even more horrific memory than Saigon is. And America's reputation has taken an even larger drop in world opinion. This withdrawal could have been accomplished so much more orderly, intelligently, and with more attention to our friends and allies. The worst part of this situation is that we did NOT achieve a solution to the problem. By GIVING the country back to the Taliban, that country will once again harbor Islamic extremists. Which means with all likelihood, we'll have to go back again.
Was a unwinnable situation , no easy way out ,the Afghan government inhibited a orderly withdrawal and the Afghanistan troops failed to fight. There was a no win situation the war mongers wanted to keep our troops to stay and die
Yes, Bob, that's true. However, it wouldn't have taken a rocket scientist to plan and execute a better exit strategy. After all, the U.S. has/had tremendous military forces in the area.
The Afghanistanis had 20 years to take their country, but they allowed religion to cloud their thinking. And they would have continued to sit on their hands for another 20 years.
Imagine if it had happened when and how Trump wanted the withdrawal, now he's pretending his sensibilities have been offended as if he, Donald Trump, wouldn't have skull fucked the entire operation, what a fucking goon.
I feel proud of President Biden for defying the war machine.
America did not "GIVE" Afghanistan back to the Taliban, as you put it. It sounds like Afghanistan soldiers refused to fight, even though America provided them with equipment and training.
Why should Americans continue paying for their civil war? We cannot "save" that country. America spent trillions on nation-building in Afghanistan.
I feel sad and horrified that the cruel, tyrannical Taliban is in power again. Photos and videos of Afghans desperately trying to flee their country are haunting.
What has changed is Afghanistan citizens now have cell phones and internet service.
They were given all the training and equipment. Their army out numbered the taliban, or so I understand. Why did they not stand and fight?
@silverotter11 their enemy came carrying a Koran and wrapped in a turban.
I agree that we could have done a better job of withdrawing, but we could never have "saved" that country.
