From a FB post by my sister:
"I’ve been fighting stage 4 breast cancer for 8 years plus I’ve been fighting Addison’s disease which is fatal if not treated. Then I see post where people are fighting wearing mask or being vaccinated. How about you walk a mile in my shoes. Quit whining about something as insignificant as wearing a mask or being pro active and actually doing something to protect yourself and others. If you want to protest, protest something important. Quit being crybabies."
She forgot to add that she also had a heart attack.
Anti-vaxxers go by the motto "my body, my choice." My sister didn't choose to have cancer, didn't choose to develop Addison's disease, and didn't choose to have a heart attack. She chooses not to have Covid, but her choices are limited to wearing a mask, getting vaccinated, and self-isolating. Meanwhile, anti-vaxxers are promenading around infecting others, including people like my sister.
An added irony is that if any of the health issues that my sister has reaches a crisis point, there will probably be no hospital bed for her because the hospitals are filled with anti-vaxxers who contracted Covid.
In that case, she will die of Covid, not because she contracted the disease, but because people who had options to help save her didn't take those options and did contract the disease. She is representative of thousands of others.
What irritates me just as much as the matter of being inconsiderate is the added risk. The bigger the petri dish Covid has, the more likely it is to spawn a far more deadly strain. We could keep this virus down to an endemic risk instead of an eternal plague, but we would need everyone to make an effort.
Yes, those whining about their "freedoms" don't understand that by walking around un-vaxxed and un-masked, they are trampling on the freedoms of the vulnerable people who would be safe going out in public (with proper safety protocols) if it wasn't for them. They are the ones complaining about not wanting another lockdown (in my area) but refusing to be part of the solution. Mind boggling.
The hospitals in my state have finally reached their maximum capacity and because of the unvaccinated needing hospitalization for covid, many of our residents can't get their prescribed surgeries done. We have a breast cancer patient who had to postpone her mastectomy due to no hospital beds, and others telling their stories on the news, and do they have a right to blame the anti-vaxxers? Yes, in my opinion, they do!
Thank you, this is a reality most never consider. We also have a reality that all the stupidity is bankrupting our meager health care system. We don't need tRump to screw things up, we're doing very well ourselves (I mean them not us).
Very well said!!!!!
I also had breast cancer, 16 years ago.
Would you mind if I spread that letter around on another site? I really think this needs to be heard everywhere.
I would never re-post anything like this without total permission first, so I appreciate your asking her.
Yes, I'm glad mine was successful too, but mammo found it very early, so I was lucky. The lump was so deep it never would have been felt until way too late.
For sure, a lot for her to deal with, without having covidiots expose her to things totally unnecessary.
These people are not only stupid and self centred and at the very least likely to get seriously ill themselves or die from their own deluded notions..that would all be ok if it only affected them. As we know of course, people like your sister who are at high risk medically are also likely to be affected by their stupidity by taking up beds and the attention of medical staff, and that is unforgivable. I do hope your sister manages to keep clear of COVID and gets the treatment she requires when she needs it.
@Gwendolyn2018 That is sadly true I’m sure…another long term consequence of this pandemic.
@Gwendolyn2018 I’m actually a mixture too…although I’m really gregarious when I’m in company and happy in a crowd, I do still enjoy living and being on my own too, and am quite happy with my own company for days on end when I choose. I coped very well with the lockdown, caught up on my pile of reading material, watching series on Netflix etc., that I’d missed earlier and having my shopping delivered instead of going to the supermarket. I think I’m naturally an extrovert which means I rarely feel down and if I do it’s only for a very brief spell. I feel in that respect I’m very lucky.
Anti-vaxxers are a special breed, and I don't understand them. They need to be on a separate island somewhere.
They are a complete menace to society.
@Gwendolyn2018 Typical jerk behaviour, & unforgivable.
