The entire "gig economy" is driven by tax avoidance of various shades. No employer contributions to social health security, no local corporation tax, no pension liability, etc.
In other words, it denies income to the governments of countries, whilst leaving those countries saddled with liabilities to its citizens.

If it was a "matching platform", the price would be set between the driver and rider - maybe with a competitive bidding thing, not set solely by Uber.
