I officially cut the cord to cable today. Still paying an arm and a leg for internet.
Congratulations! I have never paid for cable TV. The only thing I miss is the Olympics every four years.
I never owned a TV until my mother bought me one in 2006. Mom wanted to watch her exercise videos while visiting me for a month.
"You are culturally deprived," my then-boyfriend said in 2014. A director of IT at Boeing, he insisted on buying me a smart TV at Costco. He even carried out the old, heavy TV, taking it too Goodwill.
Now I enjoy watching Netflix. A voracious reader, I belong to a book club and always have a book going. As a passionate hiker, I love the outdoors.
Since I live in a building that's on the National Register of Historic Places and can't have satellite, I get free expanded basic cable. The cost for internet on the other hand is ridiculous. I don't know that I'd pay for cable if I lived some where else.
Can't live without cable-tried lasted 2 months.
Cut off my satellite a couple of years ago. For a while, anything I wanted to keep up with I would just download a day or two after it aired. Started using Kodi about a year ago, so far I'm very happy with it. It's not perfect, but it's free (not counting the internet cost, but right now that's only about $50 a month). I did sign up for SlingTV a couple of months ago. That was primarily to watch my Walking Dead shows as they air, but I get several other channels that I enjoy so it's worth it for now. I'll have to see how I feel when the season is over.
