As a public figure, Donald Trump is a malevolent, two-trick pony. Like Huey Long, one of the most corrupt politicians in American history, Trump has learned that you can win elections if “you stir up people’s bowels” with hate and fear “to let them know that they are alive.”
Second, he knows that you can fool people if you keep them distracted – with misinformation, public grandstanding, saturating the media, and constant outright lies. He is adept at making people think he is accomplishing something while he is lazily doing NOTHING of value.
When the era of Trump and trumpism is over, a lot of decent people are going to be terribly ashamed of themselves and of how easily them were fooled and taken advantage of. Let us hope that that day will come soon.
Both Steve Bannon and Paul Manafort provided Russia with Trump campaign demographic data. The Russians used this data to tilt the 2016 election in Trump's favor. Mueller's report detailed 100 meetings between Trump campaign staff and the Russians. Russian money flowed to Trump and other Republicans via the NRA. And yet the Republicans have virulently opposed Communism and everything Russia before now. How do Trump supporters look in the mirror? As they support a treasonous ex-president, they are traitors themselves.
Honestly, I can't wrap my mind around why some people STILL support the orange man. I understand why racists and bigots and morons and misogynists and people filled with bile and hate would support Trump. But then I see people that I consider decent and sane also supporting Trump. That is something I don't understand.
Before Trump announced his run for presidency in 2015 I really had no real issue with him though I knew very little about him except that he was a pompous big-mouthed buffoon. But after he began campaigning it only took me a short while to realize what an awful human being he was and he proved I was right again and again and again. I cannot grasp how others did not see what I saw. I'll never understand that.
