Taylor Swift was on SNL. She reminded my why i detest pop "music".
That’s a rather sweeping statement to make - as pop music covers such a wide spectrum of music and musical artists! .
95% of which (and I'm being generous) is trash from a purely musical standpoint.
@Secretguy As a someone who studied music and who has performed and appreciated a variety of music of all genres and periods for almost 70 years, I’m afraid to say you are sadly mistaken. There is of course dross in all musical sectors and from all periods of history, but it’s a mistake to dismiss all, or even 95% of any genre as worthless and without merit. It is possible that you have never bothered to listen comprehensively to any really well constructed piece of pop music but have just decided to dismiss it out of hand which is a mistake. The classical music we listen to from earlier centuries and decades was actually the pop music of it’s day and the composers the pop stars, and only music snobs don’t realise that fact. We have some extremely talented musicians composing and performing interesting and complex new music today, and it is popular…ergo “pop music”.
@Marionville, @Secretguy As someone who has made a living playing music you could not be more wrong. Pop music covers all genre of music. What is your favorite, blues? There are five blues songs and they just change the lyrics. Is it rap? Sing me the melody of your favorite rap song. Is it metal? It is so bad it lost its audience (primarily teens and twenty year old males) to Rap. New country? It is nothing more than really bad pop. Maybe jazz? A dying music that peaked in the 50s and 60s, which I listen to all of the time. Yet everyone of those types of music has charted on the "pop charts". I will agree I would rather have a tooth ache than listen to a Taylor Swift song. There are two types of music, good and bad, and they are found in all genre of music.
@Sticks48 @Secretguy I’m not defending Taylor Swift …I’m not a fan, but that is a personal preference and I understand that others will disagree. What I’m saying is because I don’t like Taylor Swift and she is a pop star it cannot be extrapolated from the fact that because I’m not a fan of her music I must dislike all pop music.
I prefer her being on SNL to that fucking Kim Kardashian. Fuck Pete Davidson too BTW. At least Taylor Swift's got talent. And she's a local girl from Berks County.
Pete doesn't pass himself off as a musician, except for comedy's sake. Unlike the others you mention.
