Exactly, The false pride of nothing irks me the most. There is a lot to celebrate. But I suppose among the despair of bad economy, high unemployment, lack of basic necessities, daily corruption, and the daily struggle just for survival... it is easier for the government to remind people of we are a great culture, a great nation... It is a kind of comfort and it makes it easy to think... today and now is now what we are. We are a great culture, once a great empire etc. I have seen that since childhood. When the reality is hard, people need an escape. That is why we went to the movies all the time. They glorify tinpot heroes and create a false sense of greatness.
