Time Travel. Work by notable physicist, Kip Thorne, and others indicates it's theoretically possible, but only so long as it preserves all cause and effect relationships. This eliminates many of the paradoxes expressed in the movies. For example, it is not possible for a person to travel back in time to kill ones own grandfather before his parent was born. Also, the timeline in Star Trek cannot be contaminated or altered.
