Entomophagy anyone?
Are we too enculturated to aver bring bugs to the table? I see a real moral bonus to eating insects for protein... And an evironmental bonus as well... And honestly, the grasshopper, and mealworms I've tried are pretty darn good!

I just...can’t. If I ever give up meat/dairy(unlikely!), protein would come from smoothie-type things, legume/grains, etc. There’s a place in Asheville that offers cricket tacos: ugh. I can’t even!

As plentiful as insects are and with all the animals that thrive on them for survival I wonder what evolutionary scenario steered humans away from such a plentiful food source. There seems to be a huge 'ick' factor with humans when it comes to eating bugs.

When I was but a wee lil' Karen, there was a deli selling items like chocolate covered ants, candied grasshoppers, and bees in something (I forgot how they presented them). I admit that I used to think "Ick!" but who knows? Maybe I was missing something important.

i have no problem with eating bugs, i still prefer the taste and texture of more traditional protiens, but bugs arent aweful. the only issue i ever have with some folks who want me to switch to a bug filled diet, is when they try to say somehow its mean to eat a cow, but not a bug...i never understood why it would be mean to eat one living thing and not another

I guess the way I see it is that, if we're going to farm, and eat animals for protein, the simpler than animal, the better. Insects surely detect damage; but I guess I still regard them as, more or less, as just being a stone's throw from single-celled animals. We think nothing of growing a community of yeast, just so they'll make bubbles in our bread... I don't think mealworms suffer any from being able to thrive in a nutrient-rich environment, and then having one bad day... Not like baby cows do, for veal. Not like farmed mammals, or poultry do...
