Lawrence Welk thought the refrain "Sweet Jesus" made it a modern hymn. My sweet old Baptist granny was a huge fan and never missed his show. What I wouldn't give to hear her singing along.

According fun facts: Lawrence Welk is considered to be the number one accordionist of all time. Myron Florin, the man introducing this number, was considered the 5th best and Weird Al didn't make the top ten.

Laughed through the whole song. 🤣 My parents loved Welk. 😍 A modern spiritual indeed!!! 🤣🤣🤣

That is just so funny no matter how many times I hear this it still cracks me up.

Just another typical example of how braindead and clueless most listeners of pop music are to the actual lyrics and messages of pop songs. Reminds me of all the sheeple who listen to Springsteen's Born In The USA, and come away thinking it is some kind of patriotic, pro-war anthem, when the reality is it's a bitter, angry song of rage and disillusionment by a war vet.

I had the youth choir director at the church to which I was dragged convinced "Joy to the World" by Three Dog Night was a christian song for years.

I was sort of a rotten kid.

@Gwendolyn2018 Maybe your heart needs to be smashed flat and watch someone kick it around to find it.
And then you say.
Give that back to me.
It's mine.

@Gwendolyn2018 I know. And we keep trusting.
Dammit!

@Gwendolyn2018 Version of Hallelujah recorded in Death Valley appropriately.

@Gwendolyn2018 Next to Cohen himself, Lang's version is my favorite of all the covers. It's appropriate that she was chosen by his son to sing it at his memorial concert years ago.

@Gwendolyn2018 Doesn't surprise me that he liked hers the best.

@Gwendolyn2018 What a gift she is to music. I adore her. 😍

@Gwendolyn2018, @BufftonBeotch Really well done, video and music. Thanks for sharing.

@Gwendolyn2018 She is amazing.

When I was one toke over the line it had nothing to do with Jesus.

Hallelujah sweet jesus I was one tote over line A LOT! 🤣😈🤣

Unless he's the source. And it's pronounced Hey Suse.

LOL!, I used to watch Lawrence Welk with my grandmother. 🙂 Clearly they would not have sung that song on that show had they a clue as to what it meant.

Oh....I think they and the guy with the accordion knew exactly what they were doing.

@BufftonBeotch Myron Floran was no dummy.
