No Way Out? Aliens on 'Super-Earth' Planets May Be Trapped by Gravity

I think it is odd to speculate about such things. It may be more reasonable to speculate that intelligent life is very rare in the universe and when it does occur it is so far away in time and space that we will never know about it. Also evolution may cause any intelligent life to destroy itself as we seem to be working toward.
I find it interesting that they mention the great pyramid. That took a tremendous amount of work, over several years, with slave labor and simple machines.
Think of a race of technologically advanced (and motivated) aliens. Being on super planets, they would have tremendous resources to work with. I don't think they can be counted out just yet.
