If I hear one more person say "No one is above the law." I'm going to scream. Let's be clear about this, many people are above the law: rich people and celebrities frequently are but no one is more above the law than the lawmakers themselves. The president and all seated members of Congress are WAY above the law. We've seen that confirmed with own eyes time and again of late so anyone still claiming no one is above the law is walking thru life with their head up their ass.
People hate to be told the hard truth about anything so they comfort themselves with lies. I'm a pragmatist so I accept reality over feel good bullshit even if it lends me no comfort. That means I can accept that:
Many privileged and powerful people ARE above the law
God's a nice idea but he isn't real
Genetics and luck will get you a lot further in life than talent and perserverance will
You can't actually be anything you want if ypu just believe in yourself
None of this is comforting but at least it's reality and I'm refusing to delude myself just because it's more warm and fuzzy. Watm and fuzzy bullshit is still bullshit.
I think the sentiment that is being expressed by "no one is above the law" is that no one SHOULD be above the law and that we should all be viewed equally and fairly under the law. But yes... that is very far from the truth. Wealth and fame and power have benefits while being poor and powerless makes one more vulnerable.
Cops are totally above the law. They even have a fucking saying for it, "The blue wall of silence".
Cops! Yes, how did I miss that one?? Definitely cops.
