There's a referendum coming up in Ireland soon to repeal the 8th amendment which outlawed abortion in Ireland. If passed the law will allow abortion up to 12 weeks after 72hr waiting period with "counselling" (I don't know what that entails, ie if it's impartial?). Abortion will not be available after 12 weeks except in "exceptional" circumstances. I'm hoping that referrers to threat to the mothers life and foetal abnormalities. I can't vote and I'm gutted, been in the UK to long. I would vote to repeal. I don't believe anyone should have authority over my body unless I give them that authority.
What would you vote?
First, nobody else's business. But second, abortion laws only make abortions more difficult to get safely and without shit like coat hangers and knitting needles. These will happen, and making sure women who get them have a proper doc to go to is essential. Also, I think it should be maybe a little broader.
The people pro "make abortion illegal " are hilarious; no because they are defending what's not there but because they are convinced these laws will stop women from interrupting an unwanted pregnancy.
THEY HAVE TO BE EXTREMELY STUPID TO THINK THESE ANTI-ABORTION LAWS WILL PREVENT A WOMAN FROM GOING TO A COUNTRY WHERE TO ABORT IS LEGAL.....specially in Europe where distances are a lot shorter than in USA.
Hopefully N.Ireland can get it’s shit together too, making women fly to england for abortions is unnecessary stressful.
