Can’t disagree with that one. Just goes to show there’s hope for some of the Silicon Valley liberals.

Conservatives used to believe in limited government and minimal taxes. I was once a republican because I believed in fiscal responsibility and restraint. I was always a civil rights liberal many of my fellow Republicans were also culturally liberal. Like me they've become Democrats.

I also woke up to the fact that Republicans only lower taxes for the rich folks and are never conscientious about how they spend their money because they spend it with their friends and they spend it as fast as they can.

"Republicans only lower taxes for the rich folks"

Under previous law Under TCJA
Rate Income bracket Rate Income bracket
10% $0–$9,525 10% $0–$9,525
15% $9,525–$38,700 12% $9,525–$38,700
25% $38,700–$93,700 22% $38,700–$82,500
28% $93,700–$195,450 24% $82,500–$157,500
33% $195,450–$424,950 32% $157,500–$200,000
35% $424,950–$426,700 35% $200,000–$500,000
39.6% $426,700 and up 37% $500,000 and up

15% -> 12%
25% -> 22%
28% -> 24%
33% -> 32%
35% -> 25%
39.6% -> 37%

The biggest tax cuts 28% -> 24% went to the middle class, those making $93,700–$195,450.

I don't know who has been feeding you lies like:

"Republicans only lower taxes for the rich folks"

but you need to stop listening to them.

As far as this goes:

"Republicans are never conscientious about how they spend their money because they spend it with their friends and they spend it as fast as they can."

you do have a point, but they spend slightly slower than the Democrats, so they are the lessor of 2 evils.

@BD66 somehow under Republican administrations the deficit has always gone up faster than under Democratic ones.

Percentage changes can be very misleading. The lowest earners did not get any tax relief and the next bracket got 3%. 3% of 38.5 is a lot less than 1% of 400,000.

By the way I don't consider anyone that makes 93,000 a year middle class. Researchers seem to think middle classes is around 78K. [cnbc.com]

@Lorajay This is what happens:

A Democratic President and a Democratic Congress get elected.

They scare the hell out of voters.

Two years later, the voters vote in a Republican Congress to stop the insanity.

The Democratic President then spends the last 6 years of his term with a Republican Congress holding the purse strings.

The Republican Congress is responsible for the budget, not the Democratic President. The deficit gets smaller.

After a few years in Congress, the Republicans start spending like Democrats, and the cycle repeats.

It happened in 1992. Republicans stopped the spending in 1994.

It happened in 2008. Republicans stopped the spending in 2010.

It will happen again in 2020. Republicans will stop the spending in 2022. Thankfully, the Democrats did not have a strong enough majority to pass their insane $3,500,000,000,000 Build Back Better spending plan.
