Better yet, at bus stations.

If a woman is to be criminalized for having an abortion, shouldn't the father be criminalized for causing an unwanted child ? After all, he is surely just as guilty as her.

Quite often it's date rape, marital rape, sometimes incest and other violence against women, or perhaps a fun night gone too far, or birth control that failed, as it does a small percentage of the time.

It is a huge invasion of privacy to have to divulge such private information and could also endanger (further) the safety of the female. I don't envision many men being charged, nor women divulging the damaging information about their attacker, friend or even husband. The whole thing is just sad.

@Julie808 Hi, I agree that there are serious downsides to my idea, but I wonder how far would anti-abortion legislation would get if the father were to be held fifty per cent responsible?

@Paul_Clamberer Shit. If men were involved in pregnancy, there'd be an abortion clinic in every town.

@twill Steinman said, " If men could get pregnant abortion would be a sacrament."

Good idea

Women of child bearing age in red states might be wise to order in advance and keep on hand the abortion pill, as an emergency back up. Worth the peace of mind to have (until expiration date) in the event of birth control failure, date rape, etc.

Amazon sells it. They even have a generic now.

There has been talk that an abortion ban in some states might increase travel to Hawaii to get abortions. Well, I don't really see that being a big factor, but we did attract some visitors to Hawaii while we were one of only 13 states offering legal same sex marriages. So, there might be some truth to that...

However couples coming to Hawaii to get married generally spend a lot of money for their honeymoon activities, so that was a boost for our economy. I don't see the same amount of spending for couples or singles coming for a safe and legal abortion, except for hotel stays and room service through the recovery. But who knows.

People might question why a single gal or married couple are taking a quick trip to a non-vacation type state, while nobody questions a trip to Hawaii. There is a big difference in cost however.

The concern of the news segment was an impact on the health care facilities perhaps being called upon to perform more procedures for out-of-state patients than they can handle. As it is, there are no abortion providers on Kauai, so anyone seeking that procedure needs to fly to Oahu. That is the case for many of the health care procedures - many of our island residents have to be flown to Oahu for medical procedures.

I do wonder how many law makers and politicians have stock in the abortion pill pharmaceutical companies.

There are places they can fly that are closer than Hawaii.

I'm sure they will. I'm also sure the firewall of red states will shut off vehicle transportation of pregnant women to coastal states (unless they can demonstrate destination and purpose). Western states will face trucking hassles, as well, so become reliant on air and ports. Fed run ports. The whole bag of wax is coming down without legislation, which is what RBG signified when declaring the ERA dead.

If the red states begin doing that at their borders, it will be just like The Handmaid's Tale, where border guards on the US side were stopping fleeing Americans and shooting them with automatic weapons if they tried to run from them, and those that didn't would be captured and sent to prison camps.

@TomMcGiverin I haven't seen THT but take your word of it. Yes, it will be the outbreak of Civil War. That might be good (if Dems emerge the winners). I'll try to take out one or two before they kill me.

@rainmanjr I'm not very optimistic that our side would win. And I don't think the Dem Party really cares that much about civil rights and liberties. The conflict really boils down to the White Christian fascists against the antifa and anti-theocrats. I think a civil war would likely end with the South and Midwest being one country and the rest of the continental US, with the exception of a few western states, being another country. I have little confidence that the cops and military would be very much allied with our side. I think they would stand by the sidelines at best, or even side against us with the fascists.

@TomMcGiverin Oh, I agree completely. That's part of why I plan to get out early. Why would I want to struggle through that Hell for such a payoff? No, sir. Goodbye is all I'll have to say.

@rainmanjr If I had more money, and a partner to leave with, I would do it. But I have family ties, really, and my local friends, who are my whole emotional support system, are not going to leave, so I'm stuck.

@TomMcGiverin I understand. When I say "get out early" I mean to be shot and die.

@rainmanjr Agreed. If it comes to that, I will gladly take up a gun and shoot it out in the streets with these pricks. I would rather die that way than sitting at home waiting for them to come get me and either shoot me or put me in a camp.

  1. All states that ban abortion will ban abortion pills and criminalize traveling to another state to get an abortion.
  2. All states that ban abortion will criminalize traveling to another state to get an abortion.
  3. All states that ban abortion will ban the ability to get abortion pills by mail.
  4. Most abortions are via pill these days.
  5. It is my sincere belief that women will begin to get incarcerated for behaviors that will get outlawed meant to protect fetuses (because they will count as people/ citizens. e.g. A pregnant woman who gets caught drinking or smoking will be jailed until she gives birth.

This entire abortion shift will put more need for the abortion pill. They will try to stop that pill, of course, but the end result will be that there is less surgical abortions. This works all the way around except for cases where a miscarry requires a funeral. (Some idiots are pushing for this.) OK, let me declare the kid on my taxes and get back more end of the year money because of that miscarriage. I doubt if we can identify the sex of the miscarry. That might be needed unless we just send the would be mother to prison.

"I did it, Maw. Now you cannot abort me any longer and I have less fear. We are also going to flood social media with photoshopped pics of good looking babies in the womb at 6 weeks."

No shit

Or maybe they just know how to use birth control.

That statement belies a complete lack of understanding of the issue as a whole.

Contraception fails with alarming frequency.
Far more than most people even realize.

Further, it shouldn't even matter anyway.
No one is remotely qualified to judge any woman's reasons for choosing abortion. Not ever.

It doesn't matter how a woman gets pregnant.
All that matters is that it is HER decision whether she chooses to gestate that pregnancy or not.
How anyone else feels about it is 100% irrelevant. They don't get to weigh in, or interfere.

@KKGator I guess my wife & I have been lucky. Contraception never failed us; over many decades.

Least you continue to read this with prejudice I tell you I am very Libertarien. As such I firmly believe the Govt. has no right to tell us what we can put into our bodies or what we can do with our bodies.

Having said that, first, if the Supreme Court rules as the leaked memorandum indicates, that does not make abortion illegal. Each State will make laws making abortion legal or illegal, so any argument you may have will be with each individual State.

Second you ignore the other side's argument as if it didn't exist, in fact you infer no other argument has a right to exist. That position ignores reality.

@Alienbeing I'm not ignoring the other side's "arguments", I'm negating their validity completely.

No one, especially not male politicians--at ANY level, have any right legislating women's bodily autonomy.

THAT is the reality.

@KKGator Actually all elected Representatives have a duty to weigh in. We certainly don't agree with all they have to say, however their sex does not relate to their duty to perform in their elected position.

@Alienbeing Again, NO.

@KKGator Your choice, but you'll never win with that position.

@Alienbeing It's not about "winning".

It is about our right to have bodily autonomy.
It is our RIGHT to not be subjected to anyone else's beliefs or feelings.
The right to choose our medical care should never be legislated.

I will NEVER acquiesce to control by anyone.
Nor will I accept anyone having their bodies controlled by the government or any religion.

@KKGator I would think you would want to win that argument, not just talk about it.

@Alienbeing You are falsely assuming that I am just talking about it.

@KKGator Perhaps you can see why I might fallely assume that whe YOUR last reply of 5/10 said "It's not about "winning".

In any event, good luck in your quest.

Or at the border?

When we lived between the Navajo and Hopi reservations, local school teachers (presumably among other folks) would send a person weekly to the Gray Mountain Trading Post border 'town' for an alcohol run. Alcohol was illegal to sell on the reservation.

There's also the Border Store between Kanab and Fredonia between AZ and UT. (Of course the only reason those two towns are situated the way they are was to give Mormons a place to stash their extra wives when UT was a state before AZ was. Ha, ha.)

Weed is legal in Arizona.

Definitely could be a revenue generator for progressive states. Just like legal weed. When I go to the dispensary in Wendover NV a 100 miles west of Salt Lake it’s packed and every car in the parking lot has a Utah tag.

The coastal states will be shut off from vehicle transportation of pregnant women by firewall of red states. That's going to cause some economic turmoil for the coastal states and make importation of goods, by truck, harder. Utah cares much less about Western wildfires than liberal states, as well. A whole lot of shaking is about to begin.
