Somebody recently told me to "get a life".

Yeah, sure.

That shows me much more about them than if they were seen wanking publicly in the middle of Times Square on a busy day.

It tells me that what matters in their life should matter to me; sheer bloody arrogance.

It alleges that I am incapable of knowing what matters to me; sheer bloody ignorance.

It tells me that that in their opinion their life should matter to me more than my own life; sheer bloody narcissism.

It is telling me what I should be doing; sheer bloody bullying.

Such people are emotionally incompetent.

They are also intellectually incompetent.
